submit

Submitting to Steller’s Weekly is easy! Just send an email in the following format to submit@mountainjaybooks.com. Writers in any stage of their careers are welcome to submit; however, with this publication we are aiming to spotlight new and emerging voices, so please consider submitting elsewhere if you already have a well-established writing resume.

  • Subject line: SUBMISSION
  • Attachment: The piece must be an unpublished short story between 1,000 and 6,000 words in length. Any font, double spacing. Please include your name in the file name, but not in the file itself. We read your work blind to remove any subconscious bias. An example of a helpful file name is Title_Firstname Lastname.
Your choice of two file formats:
    1. MS Word/.docx.
    2. Or, if you prefer the Google suite, click the ‘Share’ button in the live Google Doc, and add the above email address as a Commenter. Make sure the ‘Notify people’ box is checked.
We require these formats instead of PDFs because they allow us to make collaborative comments should we decide to advance your work to the pre-publication editing stage.
  • Message body: Provide any contextual information you would like us to consider followed by an author’s bio of no more than 175 words. (Highlight your background and writing ambitions, at a minimum. Please be concise but interesting!)
  • Signature: Sign off with your name as you would like it published–pen names are welcome! *Please do not provide phone numbers or physical addresses*

Though we would love to publish every story we receive, at this time we are limited to one per week. This means we have to be picky, so we apologize if your story is not selected. At a minimum, we will always send a personalized note letting you know whether or not we would like to move forward.

Thank you so much for submitting! We are honored you want to be a part of our story.

Rights & Compensation

Mountain Jay Books requests non-exclusive online first publication and archiving rights. In other words, you retain all rights to your work, we just request that we can publish it first and archive it indefinitely on our website. There are no restrictions or waiting periods before you can publish it elsewhere after our initial publication.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed. Just let us know as soon as possible if your work was accepted elsewhere.

At this time, we are unable to offer any compensation for the right to publish your work; however, we also do not require any submission fees, so we feel this balances out. We plan to offer compensation as we grow!
