Submitting is easy! If you have never had a short story or full-length novel published on anything except a personal website, just send an email in the following format to submit@mountainjaybooks.com

Subject line: SUBMISSION
Attachment: Word or PDF format. Must be an unpublished short story no greater than 5,000 words. Any font, single spacing. Please include your name in the file name, but not in the file itself. An example of a helpful file name is Title_Firstname Lastname.pdf
Message body: Provide any contextual information you would like us to consider followed by an author’s bio of no more than 175 words. (Highlight your background and writing ambitions, at a minimum. Please be concise but interesting!) Lastly, indicate whether or not you would like feedback on your work.
Signature: Sign off with your name as you would like it published–pen names are welcome! *Please do not provide phone numbers or physical addresses*

Though we would love to publish every story we receive, at this time we are limited to one per week. This means we have to be picky, so we apologize if your story is not selected. If desired, we will make every effort to give feedback on your work; if things are busy we will, at a minimum, send a short note letting you know whether or not we would like to move forward.

Rights & Compensation

Mountain Jay Books requests non-exclusive online first publication and archiving rights. In other words, you retain all rights to your work, we just request that we can publish it first and archive it indefinitely on our website. There are no restrictions or waiting periods before you can publish it elsewhere after our initial publication.

At this time, we are unable to offer any compensation for the right to publish your work; however, we also do not require any submission fees, so we feel this balances out. We plan to offer compensation as we grow!
