When I was a child, I was fascinated beyond the boundaries of the word to discover that in addition to learning history and chemistry and arithmetic, all schoolchildren were required to digest and consider works of fiction written many centuries ago. I found this remarkable, and began reading them over and over, deeper and deeper, looking for the secret to their importance.
I found it. Oh, just as so many others before me, I found it. And since that time, I have spent my thirty-four years on this planet embracing it. To me, there is nothing more human than a fictional tale with the power to move real people in the real world. We are social animals, highly influenced by the words and actions of those we admire, and thus storytelling is as natural to us as singing is to birds.
We sing for utility. We sing for comfort. We sing for pleasure and entertainment and love. We sing to apologize and to forgive, to care and to heal, and to show one another the contents of our souls. We sing the best we can so that we may grow as songbirds. And, most importantly, we sing to drive forward the moral progress of humanity. Every day we sing, and every day the world listens.
What is your song? What have you to share? Are you willing to share it with us?
We at Steller’s Weekly are passionate writers, readers, and bookbinders. We want to improve the world through story, rather than through power, manipulation, or coercion. If you, too, want to make a difference, please consider becoming a part of our story. Ultimately, we aim to elevate literature by becoming the launching point for dozens of writers worthy of being pondered by schoolchildren across the globe for centuries to come. Please, join us.
Thank you.
